Blog Post #2

My first example of rhetoric comes from my favorite local rider, Mike Aitken. Mike was riding a line that he had rode before and was comfortable on and threw a trick that he had dialed. Most times just out riding for fun but this time it was a photo shoot. He decided to go for one last run before going to eat and wasn't wearing his helmet. He landed on his face and suffered from a three week coma, complete right side paralysis, a brain stem injury, broken eye and jaw socket, tracheotomy, feeding tubes, and damaged vision. Since this crash he has had to re-learn how to swallow, walk, control his right side, and balance as seen in the second link.

The first video listed has the quote I would like to reference for this assignment. It happens during 1:33-1:43. Mike explains how he plans to get back on his bike but this time with a helmet. Mike is trying to encourage and support younger riders to wear a helmet overtime they ride. His attempt to persuade his audience consists of his extensive injury list, his experience and credibility as a rider, and all the footage they have of him in the second link provided. The third I decided to include shows mike back on his bike "jibbing" around five months after physical therapy.

My second example is from another one of my favorite street riders named Tom Dugan aka "Dang Dang" aka "The Duganator". This specific part is from 2:39-3:13 in this Props Bio and he is talking about Dr. Pepper.  He is trying to persuade you to not drink water and to only drink Dr. Pepper from Peter Pan Mini Golf because it is the best. Tom also tells us that water does nothing for our bodies and so thats why we should drink Peter Pan Dr. Pepper. Tommy uses the facts he knows about Peter Pan Dr. Pepper and compares it to water to prove that we should be drinking Dr. Pepper instead of water.
